Chamarajanagara: Primary and Secondary Education Minister N. Mahesh has said that the government is contemplating over implementing open book exam system for primary school level in the state.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Mahesh termed the closed book exam system as unscientific as it has been designed for only 2-3 percent of a section of society.
“It is unfair to judge kids this way. Those who write without looking at the book are brilliant and others are fools is a rather foolish way of assessing a child,” he opined adding that children must be allowed to write looking into textbooks.
He opined that in the present education system the focus is on the teachers rather than the students. “This needs to change. The teaching methodology for primary and high school students should be changed completely. In the new system, teachers should change, not the students,” the minister said and added that a workshop will be organized to interact with education scholars and department officials.
“Some serious thinking is going on regarding English education to children in primary-level. English will be taught as a language along with the mother tongue. Even the Chief Minister has supported the proposal. Prominence will be given to impart skillful education to the children,” Mahesh said.
