Gundlupet: Election Commission officials seized Rs 20 Lakh from a car belonging to Manoj Kumar Karjagi, nominated Director of North West Road Transport Corporation, in by-election bound Gundlupet constituency on April 7.
It is gathered that Manoj Kumar is a close confidante of State Congress Minister for Mines and Geology Vinay Kumar Kulkarni. On suspicion, BJP supporters blocked the car in front of Hotel Gateway in the town. When they found the cash in Rs 2000 denomination notes, they informed election commission officials, it is learnt.
Manoj Kumar Karjagi from Hubballi has been subjected to investigation by the officials to get more details on seized cash.
Gross abuse of power says opposition
The Siddaramaiah government is misusing government machinery and tax payers’ money to garner votes, said opposition.
BJP State Chief B S Yeddyurappa termed Siddaramaiah as the most unfit chief minister and accused him of transporting tax payers’ money in police vehicles to ensure victory of Congress candidates. Anti social elements have been summoned to the constituencies by Congress leaders where by-polls are taking place, accused B S Yeddyurappa and demanded his resignation as the chief minister over abuse of power.
A report on the gross irregularities by the state government in by-poll bound constituencies will be sent to Central Election commission and the home ministry, Yeddyurappa said.
