Chamarajanagar: A case pertaining to hunting of an elk in the Biligiriranga Tiger (BRT) forest reserve was quashed due to the destruction of evidence related to the case. Based on a report in this regard, the accused Range Forest Officer Raghavendra M Agase has been suspended from his duty, here on Thursday, December 13.

The suspension order was rolled out from the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.

A report in this regard was submitted by the Director of BRT Tiger Project and Chief Conservator of Forests of Chamarajanagar jurisdiction.

In the Huchchana Kembare area which falls under the Punajanur zone, an elk was hunted down on November 1.

When the hunters killed the elk, they had seen RFO Raghavendra in his uniform and had escaped living the meat right there. Raghvendra had not informed anything about this to his higher officials, due to which the director of the tiger reserve had given a report to the higher authority saying that he had not acted lawfully.

They had also submitted a report stating that Raghavendra was involved with Razaq, who is accused of illegally cutting down 107 silver oak trees in the Bedaguli forest.

Based on the report, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests has rolled out a suspension order under the Karnataka State Civil Services Act, 1978.
