Peace restored after police nab 5 miscreants involved in Ambedkar statue desecration

Kollegal: Police finally succeeded in nabbing five miscreants, who whipped commotion in Chamarajanagar district and surrounding areas by desecrating the statue of Baba Saheb B R Ambedkar, near the Bhimanagar entrance arch in Kollegal on January 13.Stalin (27), Naveen alias Pinka (29), both residents of Kallubhavi in Bhimanagar, Sharath Kumar (21) of Panna road, Shivaswamy (22),an auto driver by profession and Anil Kumar (21), a resident of Basthipur road were arrested by the police.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kuldip Kumar R Jain the Chamarajanagar Police had formed three separate teams led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police to nab the accused.

Based on reliable information, police interrogated Stalin on February 1, one of the accused, who spilled the beans on the heinous act. Immediately, police nabbed four of his accomplices and are on the lookout for another one, who is absconding.

It may be recalled that the statue of B R Ambedkar was desecrated on January 13 by miscreants who garlanded the statue with used footwear.

The incident had given rise to a lot of tension in the district. Irate citizens had blocked roads in Hanur and Kollegal towns and few organisations had observed bandh to protest against the heinous act.
