Meet ‘super guard’ Rana, the nightmare for anti-socials operating in Bandipur!

Chamarajanagar: The anti-social elements have lifted their ugly heads in Bandipura area and proof to this is the miserable and mysterious death of Prince, the charmer tiger of Bandipur reserve forest. With the aim of strengthening the forest department, Rana has come on to the scenes and he is surely becoming the ‘super guard’ of the jungles.

While many may imagine a toned ‘fight master’ in their minds, Rana is no hero, but he is no less than a hero. All of three, Rana, a German Shepherd is in Bandipur after completing his training at 23 Battalion of the Special Armed Reserve Force in Madhya Pradesh.

He has been trained to trace wood, animal pelt, tusk smugglers and poachers.

Bilingual Rana can understand orders in Hindi and English and he is under supervision of forest staff Prakash. Put up at STF Guest House at Melukamanahalli of Bandipur, Rana is given a rich diet comprising milk, curd, meat and supplements.

On his arrival, Rana helped the forest officials nab timber smugglers at N Begoor and sanders smugglers near Wind Flower resort. He also solved man-eater tiger mystery that had scared Madhumalai area and the black leopard poisoning case at Hanchipura.

With Rana creating ripples in Bandipur, it is said that there are plans to bring in more sniffers into the Forest team in Nagarahole, Biligiriranganabetta and Kali Reserve Forest.
