Chamarajanagar: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah, on Sunday, December 9, declined to comment on any religious issues saying, “If I say anything about religion, it is misinterpreted.”
Speaking to reporters in Chamarajanagar, he stated that in the Lingayat issue, his name was unnecessarily brought in and he was misinterpreted. “There are a lot of traditions in our society. We recommended a separate Lingayat religion based on the report of an experts’ committee. But, it was converted into a controversy. I was stuck between two and you know the result,” he said.
His statement comes amidst the Congress party’s efforts to distance itself from the Lingayat-Veerashaiva controversy, keeping in mind the party’s interests in the upcoming general elections.
