Chamarajanagara: The forest department is making all the arrangements to shift the existing safari venue of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve to another location from June 2.

There are more than 140 tigers, a large number of cheetahs, deer, elephants and many such animals in Bandipur Reserve Forest. People come for safari for a glimpse of these animals.

The safari was generating huge revenue for the forest department since the day of its inauguration. Assistant Conservator of Forests Ravikumar said that according to the Central Tiger Research Institute, the continuous movement of the vehicles and its noise in the core zone of the reserve forest interrupts the free movement of the wild animals. Therefore, to abide by the guidelines of the tiger research institute, the safari is being shifted near Melukamanahalli, 6 km away from the current location of the safari.

The new ticket counters and toilets are being constructed in the new venue near the Melkamanahalli Gate of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The Gopalaswamy hills area RFO will be the temporary in-charge of the new safari venue, said Balachandra, Director of the Bandipur Tiger Project.
