Gundlupet: An elephant calf is understood to have died after a tiger attack few days ago in Bandipur Forest Reserve.

Forest staff patrolling the area found the carcass of a year and two month old elephant calf. Deep marks around the throat area and other wounds suggest extraction of flesh by wild tiger, said forest officials after inspection.

Range Forest Officer Shivananda Magdum and others visited the spot to assess the cause of death. They buried the remains after post mortem.
