40-year-old tusker found dead in Bandipur forest range

Chamarajanagar: A dead elephant was found in the Gopalswamy mountain ranges in the Bandipur forest area, here on Saturday, April 27.

The forest officials suspect it might have been killed in a fight with another elephant.

The dead elephant is identified to be 40-year-old and there are pierced marks on different parts of its body because of which the forest officials have come to a conclusion that it died fighting another tusker.

The forest officials first spotted it in Chammanahalla area during inspection.

They immediately informed the higher officials who later visited the spot and assessed the situation.

Forest department veterinary doctor Dr. Nagaraj conducted the post mortem and later the dead tusker was cremated.
