Kollegal: Picnic with schoolmates turned deadly for a 14-year-old school girl, who accidentally slipped and eventually drowned in River Cauvery near Mullur village on April 1.
Ramya, daughter of Sidda Shetty is the deceased.
She went out with her schoolmates on a picnic from her aunt’s house, from where she was attending school. While playing with her friends, Ramya unfortunately slipped and eventually drowned in the river.
Rural Police Sub-Inspector Vanaraju arrived at the spot and helped to retrieve her body from the river. After performing the post mortem at Kollegal Government Hospital, authorities handed over the body to her relatives.
Block Education Officer (BEO) consoled the bereaved family members and offered a compensation of Rs 50000 from the department.
