‘TRIUMPH’ honors the greatest at St Aloysius College-1Mangaluru: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized a programme named ‘TRIUMPH’- Where Achievers Are Rewarded’ to honour the achievers of academic excellence on Thursday, 7 January 2021 at LCRI Hall of the College. 79 achievers in academics who got 94 per cent and above in the examinations were presented scholarship cheques and Merit Certificates as an acknowledgement of their hard work during the programme.

The academic achievements of these students show the extent to which these students have attained their short and long-term educational goals. These 79 academic achievers are the perfect examples, and the Rector of St Aloysius Institutions Fr Melwin Pinto SJ referred them as “TRIUMPHANT STUDENTS”.

Prof Edmund Frank, Dean of Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management, St Aloysius College, Mangaluru was the chief guest. Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, Rector, St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru, Fr Praveen Martis SJ, Principal, Caroleena Janefer and Alwyn Stephen Misquith, Coordinators of the programme were on the dais.

In his speech, the chief guest Prof Edmund Frank mentioned that it was really nice to see the smiles on the faces of these achievers who deserve the scholarship for their hard work and determination. Their achievement is also due to the efforts put in by the teachers in giving the best education for which they should be grateful. He also advised them to think of their Alma mater for making them what they are. He urged them to go with the flow, always try to overcome hurdles or problems that come their way, and success will be theirs. “Opportunities don’t happen, you need to generate them. You have to go forward and grab success” said Prof Edmund.

Rector Fr Melwin Pinto, SJ, in his presidential remarks said that, if someone asked the achievers, the secret of their success, their answer will definitely be HARD WORK. He addressed the achievers as triumphant students with excellent percentages of marks in their academics. He said that they need to come up on their own, and not to be too much pampered by parents. He advised them to unleash all their talents learned in this institution, and be a role model to others when they reach greater professional positions. He exhorted them to always do something for a purpose, and not do research for the sake of research. He also urged them with a larger vision and invent or create something new and unique; think of something that would benefit or help others. He said that the chief guest of the program is a perfect example and an inspiration for youth and students. “While you are good at academics also have a good heart. Be generous and help others who need help. Be restless to do more, just like us Jesuits who believe in “Magis”, a Latin word that means “more” or “greater”. Magis refers to the philosophy of doing more for Christ, and therefore doing more for others,” Fr Melwin said.

Principal, Fr Praveen Martis SJ said, “I am happy to see you all after months being hooked on to online classes, and now taking your classes offline. Today you are all celebrating your triumph and you are Ambassadors of the College. Once you complete your college make the right decision and make your dreams come true. Be your own boss rather than work under someone. Never worry about your background; always look for a better future; and try to become good entrepreneurs, researchers, engineers, doctors etc. Always remember the three E’s- ENGAGE, EXPLORE and EVOLVE” was his message to the achievers.

The programme was compered by Renita Aranha, Assistant Professor in Dept of Commerce. Caroleena Janefer welcomed the gathering. The vote of thanks was proposed by Alwyn Misquith.
