Mangaluru: The doors of opportunities for the students of journalism are wide open if they adopt continuous self up-gradation and applicability,” said ‘Vijayavani’ Kannada daily chief Reporter Venu Vinod KS.

In a special online lecture hosted by the journalism department of the University College Mangaluru on Saturday, as part of the Press Day celebration, he said there are opportunities in both the creative and technical disciplines. Advertising, scriptwriting, media management, public relations, event management, digital markets await newcomers. “Students should read newspapers from a therapeutic point of view rather than social networking sites. It is important to tailor the syllabus to suit industry needs, “he added.

Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai opined that the role of a journalist is crucial for a healthy society and in the development of the country. Journalism department Head Dr. Shani K R felt that journalism is not merely an industry but a duty and part of nationalism. The students enthusiastically participated in the interaction.
