St Aloysius Pre-University College Students Council (2019-20) inaugurated

Mangaluru: The St Aloysius Pre-University College Students’ Council (2019-20) was inaugurated at the Loyola Hall on June 22 in a grand ceremony.

Director of the International Students Centre, and Professor in English of Mangalore University, Dr Ravishankar Rao was the chief guest of the occasion. Rector of St Aloysius Institutions Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Rao said, “During our college days we never had anything like this, so exciting and sensational a Student Council inauguration, nor did we have women in the college, now the times have changed and you are all fortunate to be celebrating today. Everyday is a day of learning and today you need to carry what you learnt forward. You need to respect your fellow students, parents, teachers and elders and never look down upon others including ones with disabilities. Nobody is perfect.”

Dr Rao concluded by saying, “Stay in touch with your teachers and other mentors forever, just like Martin Luther King said ‘I have a dream…’, make your dreams come true.”

In his presidential address, Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said, ”While you are all budding leaders now, life in college is all about learning and there are three aspects in a leader – Logical Thinking, Critical thinking and Lateral Thinking. You are all leaders now, and are going to be the future leaders of this nation.”

Principal of St Aloysius PUC Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, in his address congratulated the newly inducted office bearers and said, “You have been chosen as the leaders for tomorrow. Leadership is a gift and service is a choice we make with that gift.”

Earlier, the programme began with an invokation of God’s blessings through a prayer song by the college choir, followed by a welcome dance. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest and the other dignitaries.

Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ administered the oath to the Students’ Council leaders and later, president of the Students’ Council Mohammed Rabiyath Aslam administered the oath to the other 160 Council members. This was followed by the College Anthem.

Mariam Masood, a II PUC-PCMS student compeered the programme. The welcome address was delivered by vice principal of the College, Charlotte D’souza. The vote of thanks was by HOD of the English Department Reena J Monteiro.

Vice principal Murali Krishna, Finance Officer Fr Vinod Paul, president Mohammed Rabiyath Aslam, secretary Azaan Ibrahim and joint secretary of the Students’ Council Simona Lisha Fernandes were also present.
