In his introductory remarks, Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation cascaded that the reason to conduct SSTH is to generate interest about science and technology among budding talents. He emphasized on how SSTH helps to shift from studying engineering to learning engineering and finally living engineering. He highlighted that the current first year engineering students of Sahyadri who participated in SSTH 2016 are now making names at IIT’s & NIT’s by winning places. He also re-iterated that Science & Technology Conclave, which will be held from January 6 -10 in 2018 in Sahyadri would be an international forum for students and teachers who are passionate about Science.

Prof. S N Omkar, while addressing the gathering expressed his happiness to be at the event and the initiative of Sahyadri to collect talent pools and ignite their minds. He also said in the current scenario we have ideas and concepts, however fail to take it to the consumers. He stimulated students to take their labs to life. He referred to the discoveries of renowned scientists and conveyed that the greatest inventions happened through simple experiments and not through major funding.

Vijay H Desai in his speech expressed his delight towards the exhibits of the day’s event. He urged students to take up a career in their area of interest and not through influencers. He encouraged faculty coordinators of SSTH from various colleges to invite professionals in engineering to their college and allow them to share their real life experiences to students which shall groom them in a more efficient manner.

M V Subramanian congratulated the participants of SSTH saying they are half engineers already due to their interest in projects and models. Once they pursue their course they shall be complete engineers and not mere graduates. He expressed his interest to mentor students on entrepreneurship and also advised them to host their projects on social networking sites which would fetch them appreciation and feedback. He concluded his speech by stating that “the best way of learning is teaching your friends” hence emphasizing the importance of peer learning.

The day-long event witnessed students showcasing their talent in project and model competition. They had the opportunity to interact with the guests individually as well as through the panel discussion. The panelists for the day were overwhelmed by the event and congratulated Sahyadri for hosting the unique programme. The curtains of SSTH 2017 came down with the awarding of prizes to the winners.
