Mangaluru: The Department of Philosophy jointly with Vedavyasa Samshodhana Kendra, Subrahmanya is organising a special seminar on Mahabharata and Philosophical Thoughts by Vidvan Lakshmisha Tholpadi at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal on Monday, July 22 at 3.30 PM, which is open to all.

His Holiness Sri Vidyaprasanna Tirtha Svamiji of Kukke Subrahmanya Matha will preside over the event and Dr. Neeta Inamdar, Professor and Head of Manipal Centre for European Studies will be the Guest of Honour.

Manifold worldviews of Indian philosophical thoughts posit themselves in the Mahabharata classical literature. The Mahabharata states that it discusses dharma, jnana, karma and ultimately, moksha. The idea of moksha seems to be complex and contradicting as presented in the text. This lecture followed by an interaction with Tholpadi conducted by Dr. Anandateertha would reflect upon such philosophical discourses in the Mahabharata.

Vidvan Lakshmisha Tholpadi, a renowned philosopher and litterateur, has authored many works-Mahayuddhakke Munna, Bharata Yatre, Ananda Lahari and others and is a recipient of many prestigious awards for his literary contributions.

This Seminar is an ongoing activity of the Manipal Mahabharata Lecture Series organised as a part of MAHE Mahabharata Digital Concordance Research Project. MAHE Mahabharata is the first digital concordance of highly cited three critical editions that helps researchers to conduct a critical study on textual variations of Mahabharata recensions. The lecture by Vidvan Tholpadi is seventh in the series, which hosts lectures by scholars of international repute like Bannanje, Aklujkar, Guha, Falques, Sudyka and Capkova from India and abroad.

The Department of Philosophy of MAHE, Faculty of Liberal Arts, earlier known as the Dvaita Philosophy Resource Centre (DPRC), has introduced a Master’s in Indian Philosophy and also conducts the MAHE Mahabharata research project with the support of Manipal University and had received a partial support from Vedavyasa Samshodhana Kendra, the research centre concerned to Kukke Subrahmanya Matha, towards digitisation and editing of third critical edition published by Sastri-Vavilla.
