Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management celebrates “World Ozone Day”

Mangaluru: Department of Civil Engineering of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Mangaluru celebrated the “World Ozone day”, in association with Karnataka Pollution Control Board and sponsored by Karnataka Pollution Control Board. The Ozone day commemorates the date of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.

The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. A.G Pai, Director, and CEO at JBFPetrochemicals Ltd., Mangalore. He in his speech discussed the chemistry and sources behind the ozone layer depletion and importance of Montreal Protocol. Dr. S. Manjappa Director Research addressed the gathering about the theme of Ozone day stating that the day signifies an opportunity to focus global attention on protecting the ozone layer.

Rajshekhar Puranik Senior Environment Officer KSPCB spoke about the effects of excessive consumption and exploitation of natural resources due to urbanization and industrialization. He also emphasized that for a sustainable development, a proper planning is required.

Dr. R Srinivas Rao Kunte Principal Sahyadri College in his presidential address spoke about climate change and its impact on the environment. The function was followed by the technical talk by the 2 eminent resource persons Dr. S Manjappa Dean R&D Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management and Dr. Ganesh D B Dean R&D and Head Department of Mechanical Engineering GM Institute of Technology Davangere.

Dr. S Manjappa in his talk spoke about the harmful effects of pollution on ozone in Troposphere, effects of ozone depletion and removal of Ozone depletion substance for sustainable development. Dr. Ganesh D B, in his technical talk, spoke about “The trends in I.C Engines and Fuel Injection System for a better environment”.
