Mangaluru: The department of Social Work of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) will be organising a two-day national seminar titled “Youth as Catalysts in Social Change” on September 26 and 27. The seminar will be held at the Eric Mathias Hall, Maffie Centre for Post Graduate Studies, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.
Prof Dr G Gopa Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod, will be the chief guest at the inaugural event. Ln Ronald Gomes, Lion’s Club District Governor, D.K Dist. will be the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony.
Dr Vincent Alva, principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur, will deliver the keynote address. Thomas, columnist and assistant prof, department of journalism, Jayanthi College, Bengaluru, will speak on “Youth, Media Culture and Learning”.
David Kumar, environmental conservationist and manager, United Way, Benagluru, will spean on the topic “Engaging Youth in Environmental Sustainability”. Dasharathraj K Shetty, Deputy QMR-MIT and Faculty Member, Dept. of Humanities & Management, MIT, Manipal will speak on “Youth Participation for Social Change and Nation Building”.
M P Ramnath, Mangaluru-based advocate, will be speaking on “Youth in Conflict with Law” and Santhosh Prabhu, Psychiatrist, K S Hegde Hospital, will speak on the topic “Risk Behaviours and Addictions in Youth”. Dr Thomas Scaria, Former Senior Programme officer, Colombo Plan Secretariate, Colombo (Inter Govtal Common Wealth Initiative) will speak on the topic “Prevention and Coping Youth Deviations”.
There will also be a panel discussion on the topic “Deviant Behaviours in Youth - An Analysis”.
This seminar is being conducted in an attempt to understand and critically analyze the challenges and issues faced by youth and encourage their participation by providing ways to ignite their minds for nation building which would help in contributing to the social, economic, political and cultural spheres of the nation.
