Mangaluru: Every year the World Blood Donation Day is celebrated on June 14 to raise awareness about the need for donating blood that saves countless lives. In preparation for the celebrations this year, the Centre for Social Concern, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organised a blood donation camp at “Sneha Sadan”, Care Home for Special Children, Gurupura, Kaikamba in collaboration with Wenlock Government District Hospital, Mangaluru and Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru on June 10.
The undergraduate students with guidance from CSC coordinators participated in this effort. All in all, the students and other donors successfully collected 35 units of blood at the camp. Notably, 20 of these donors were students of St. Aloysius College.
Blood donation is one of the most significant contributions that a person can make towards the society. Donating blood under medical supervision is completely safe. The human body can regenerate and replenish the blood within a few days. It poses no threat to the metabolism of the body.
An ailing body needs blood for various reasons. A person may be suffering from anemia, undergone an operation or may have met with an accident. In all these cases, due to insufficient blood circulation in the body, the person may lose life.
