Mangaluru: Women who were sidelined with the orthodox labeling of “Fit for Household”, are now changing the perception and definition of just being a homemaker. To have an enhanced knowledge and understanding of the concept of self sustenance, the St. Aloysius College post graduate department of Journalism and Mass Communication in collaboration with Spandana Trust, organized an interactive session on the subject “Women Entrepreneurship”, here on Monday, March 26.

The resource person of the programme Shilpa, entrepreneur and owner of ‘Halli Mane Rottis’ shared all her experience from the initial hiccups to the current achievements. She said, “I’ve experienced insensitivity shown towards my helpless situation. The circumstances drove me to make hasty decisions, but I made myself strong and clung on to the food business. My food, especially rottis and stews that I prepare, is also recommended by doctors, as it is healthy and reduces the chance of diabetes and other illnesses”.

She also emphasized on applying for the Mudra Scheme which helped her a lot and continues to help other enthusiastic women. Later during her talk, she encouraged other women and announced that she would support them in terms of holistic development of their products.

Shilpa gave a strong message when she said that there are comparatively less instances where a business has undergone loss, when women have taken responsibility. This message seeded inspiration in the minds of the women present which was clearly evident.

Suma, a woman who prepares homemade pickles and sanitary products said, “Because of family support, the business that I began with Rs. 25, now fetches me Rs.3000.

“We are not in a situation of purchasing a vehicle, as loaded with pressure of loan recovery. We have bought one and now are in tangled with odd situations”. Shilpa then advised her about bank loans and even promised to promote her pickles in her canteen for optimum reach.

Baby, Harinakshi, Aruna, Srilatha and Sunita from Green Kair and many other women present during the interactive session, posed their experience on how the city corporation had personally offered monetary support to start a business. Baby was the one who was benefited by the offer.

Anvitha Naini and Vikranth Shetty, students from mass communication, St. Aloysius College organized this programme. Spandana Trust administrator, Sister Helan Fernandez, staff Victor Vas, Teertha, Sister Dorathi and other women entrepreneurs were present for the programme.
