Bengaluru: Building on last year’s success, St. Joseph College Of Law repeated history by organising a 6-day orientation programme from July 23 onwards for the 300 newly admitted Law students.
The major objective of the programme was to apprise the parents and students of the academic aspects of the course, rules and regulations of the college and ensuring parental participation in monitoring the performance and progress of the students. The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Director, Rev. Fr. Swebert D Silva, SJ, Principal, Dr. Pratima Prabhakar, Vice-Principal, Rev. Fr. Praveen Hrudayaraj and students followed by a prayer service.
Later, a video presentation gave the gathering a very comprehensive idea about the college and also highlighted the achievements of staff and students.
Fr. Swebert D’Silva, Director SJCL welcomed and congratulated the students for becoming a part of the Josephite Family. He gave a brief idea about Jesuit Philosophy of Education followed by the introduction of Faculty and Management. Dr. Pratima Prabhakar, Principal, SJCL, addressed the gathering by providing them with a gist of the academic year. She also encouraged students to participate in curricular as well as co-curricular activities.
The students were introduced to several accomplished and prolific speakers such as Prof. V B Coutinho (Vice Chancellor, Garden City University), Dr. Ali Khwaja (Chairman Banjara Academy), Justice Santosh Hegde (Former Judge of Supreme Court), Prof. Mallar (NLSLU), Rahul Singh(NLSLU), Prashanth (Partner, J Sagar Associates), Dr. Sarasu Esther Thomas(NLSLU), Aditya Sondhi (Additional Advocate General). Vineeth Krishna & Team (Constitutional & Civic Citizenship Centre for Law and Policy Research) who enlightened the audience about various topics: Aspects of Justice and the Legal Profession, Women and the Law, What is ‘Unique’ about Constitution of India, Falling Social Values and its Consequences and so on.
The students clarified their doubts by energetically participating in question and answer sessions. A high- spirited ice-breaking session geared up the students for the academic year.
