Udupi : An interactive session on “HIV Positive: A Humanistic Approach” was organised by the Department of English, Milagres College, Kallianpur on July 17.

Shanthi Noronha, Project Coordinator at Deepa Jyothi Foundation, Udupi was the resource person.

In her address she spoke about the preventive measures to be adopted by the responsible citizens in preventing this dreadful malice. She discussed at length the consequences of the disease on the individual, family and society at large.

She advised students to evolve a humanistic approach while dealing with HIV-Positive people. “The ‘Positives’ are in need of love and care and they must not be treated as untouchables. The stigma attached to the ‘Positive People’ must be systematically solved by the citizens of the country. The vulnerable people are the poor, uneducated, migrants and careless youngsters,” she said emphasising on the need to create general awareness about the disease among the youth.

Principal Dr Vincent Alva presided over the function. HOD of English Department Prof. Cyril Mathias introduced the Resource Person. Sandeep Shetty, Chandrika, from the Department of English were present on the dais. The programme was compeered by Pratheeksha K of first yrear BCOM and Sandeep Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
