Mangaluru: A blooming Karate genius, Megha H D Shree, a second year student of II B Com in St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), clinched the gold in the female colour belts (50-55 kg category) at the national level Indian Karate Championship 2017, organised by the Self Defence School of Indian Karate on November 4 and 5 at Mangalore. She also bagged gold in the female colour belts (50-60 kg category) at the 35th Indian Karate Do, a national level championship organised by the Karate Budokan International Organisation at Bangalore between November 25 and 27.

In a short span of five years, the young Aloysian has won laurels in district, state and national level events. Shree has secured five gold, two silver and two bronze medals at five national level meets held throughout the country. She has also competed in state level meets across ten states. She attributes her success to her parents and trainer Pratheek U Pujari. “I had to train rigorously for upto eight hours a day for this competition”, she said.

The victor added that relentless practice was the key to her success. “My parents have been extremely supportive as well. In fact, they were the ones that took me to my first class. They have constantly encouraged me to strive on”, she remarked.

Shree wishes to take her passion to the next level and participate in international competitions. “Now that Karate has been included in the Olympic Games, it is my next goal.”
