Mangaluru: Four new diploma courses being offered by Milagres College in the academic year 2019-20 were inaugurated on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, in the College Auditorium. S L Dharmegowda, MLC and deputy chairman of Legislative Council inaugurated the newly introduced Aviation and Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Mixology and Flaring diploma courses.

Fr Joseph Lobo, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, graced the event as President of the function. Ms. Cecilia Pereira, vice president, Milagres Parish Pastoral Council, Ms. Laveena Lobo, vice president, PTA, Prof Lourdusamy, Academic Advisor, Ms. Ivin D’souza, President Student Council, were present on the dais.

Welcoming the dignitaries and students Fr Michael Santhumayor, principal, Milagres College, said, “Milagres College has introduced four new diploma courses for the students. These courses are first of its kind in the city. This is a golden opportunity for students. All these courses have huge demand and help students to start their careers early.”

In his inaugural speech, S L Dharmegowda said, “Through my brother, I came to know the history of Milagres College. When I entered the premises of the College, I felt the greatness of this College. It is my pleasure to inaugurate new courses which directly help reduce unemployment and open new doors for youth.”

In his address, Fr. Joseph Lobo said, “The management is grateful to Principal Fr Michael Santhumayor for taking up the initiative to start job-oriented courses. Our institution not only gives education but also thinks about setting up a good future for students. The four major courses started at college, help students build their careers in new dimensions. Nowadays, everyone wants to become a doctor and engineer. This is not good for the economy or employment sector. We should search for new ways to explore and convert education into career-oriented ones.”

Later, the guests inaugurated the Honesty Counter which was installed at the college. This Counter caters to the stationery needs of the students. Items displayed at the counter could be taken by the students as per their needs and the cost is to be dropped into the box kept nearby. There is no supervision as the college believes in the honesty of its students.

Mr. Cassin Rodrigues, Vice-Principal, rendered vote of thanks.
