Bengaluru: Braving the incessant rainfall in the city, hundreds of students from the AIMS Institute of Higher Education, hit the streets holding placards on December 1. The students of AIMS had organised a mega AIDS awareness rally which began in the campus located in Peenya First Phase and went around the Peenya Industrial Area, before culminating at the campus.
The students wanted to convey the message to public in general and industrial workers in particular, as to how one needs to take precautions to keep away from AIDS.
The rally was flagged off by Dr. Karunakar Reddy, Director of ACCS (AIMS Centre for Community Services wing of AIMS Institutes). About 500 students from the post graduation, pre-university department and social activists participated by distributing pamphlets to the people to create awareness about AIDS/HIV. The rally passed through various streets before culminating at the premises of Peenya and Jalahalli Cross.
The awareness rally and campaign under the theme of “Stop AIDS: Keep the promise”, stressed the need to promote voluntary blood donation for controlling HIV/AIDS.
“AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 every year and this rally is to educate public and try to remove the stigma that makes HIV patients’ lives hopeless and to make it better. Having responsibility and transparency in life is very important. Every member of the society should take care of their life and health”, said Anitha B, ACCS Wing In-charge and HoD of MSW department.
Praveena and Madhuri, students from the department of Social Work and Commerce have taken initiative to conduct this campaign.
Dr. Kiran Reddy, Principal of AIMS, Omprakash Gupta, Manager of ACCS and AIMS Registrar Sherry Kurian were present at the awareness rally.
