Life Skills is an innovative educational program for primary and secondary schools. It aims at developing the socio-emotional intelligence in children, creating safety awareness, keeping them safe online in general and on social media in particular. Life Skills Curriculum is currently being taught in schools in and around Udupi. Research shows that emotional quotient is as important as intelligence quotient (IQ) in qualifying to secure a healthy career and life.

According to studies, success depends 20 percent on academic intelligence and 80 percent on emotional intelligence (EQ). Suparna S Manipal, Managing Director, Eterna Infotech Pvt Ltd, believes Life Skill education helps build character in a child and enhance their imagination, visualisation and innovation. Through this curriculum, children learn how to be socially and emotionally intelligent. She believes that all educators need to give serious consideration to social-emotional development and not to overlook it as it can have a huge impact on the overall development of the child.

“We want children to become aware of their emotions and manage them in the right way. For example, If a child is getting frustrated, we want him to know and identify that he is getting frustrated. We teach the child to calm down because when they are angry, they cannot act wisely.”  “Making them think of something else or just by counting 1-10, shifting their attention away from the matter, going for a walk or playing a game takes them out of the situation. They can look at the options available with a calm mind. Children are smart. With calmness, they are able to choose the right options.”

Life Skills education teaches the tools and skills required to move from reactive mode to active mode.  Teachers practising life Skills tools in schools have testified that the subject helps to fill a huge gap in the ongoing education systems. The act of sending children to school is to prepare them for real life situations and challenges.
For this they need to be emotionally stable to understand how they think and feel and most importantly how to manage their feelings.

The LSE curriculum designed by Eterna Infotech Pvt Ltd is based on the 10 core Life Skills Strategies identified by WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, World Bank and MHRD, Govt of India. Based on the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and the MHRD notification 2018, life-skill is an integral part of school curriculum. Life skills lessons under the banner aims to empower the children to protect themselves, promote health and develop meaningful and enriching relationships.

The wholesome objective of My True Skills program, an Eterna Infotech initiative is to help every child grow with a free flowing mind and develop the capacity to live in the multi-faceted world as an active and engaged citizen.
