Mangaluru: India still has the mindset of studying for the sake of a job. With this 30-year old mindset we cannot even beat Israel, which has 11 universities in scientific achievement even though we have more than 1000 universities, opined Aurangabad Dr. BAM University Paul Hebert Centre for DNA Bar-coding and Biodiversity studies Director Prof. GD Khedkar.
Speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of DST- Inspire Internship Science Camp-2019 organized by the Department of Microbiology with the sponsorship of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India at Pilikula here on Thursday, he said that the government wants to provide an opportunity for skilled scientists of the country. Inspire is not a single program, but selected talents at various levels get the opportunity to pursue higher education and even for teaching.
In his inaugural speech, Pilikula Regional Science Centre Director Prof. K V Rao stressed on expected changes in science teaching and called upon students to think ‘out of the box’. They should keep their minds, ears, and eyes open to gain knowledge and help society. Presiding over the event, University College Principal Dr. Uday Kumar M A believed that students always can reach their objective by helping themselves and commitment. ‘Learning is important than studying. Enjoy each minute of life. Don’t suffer in education’, he added.
The camp will continue till November 18. More than 200 students from various educational institutions have been participating in the camp. Microbiology Department Head Dr. Bharathi Prakash welcomed guests and Zoology Dr. K A Nagarathna of Zoology Department delivered the vote of thanks. Susmi was the master of ceremony.
