Kanachur Institute celebrates Doctor’s Day

Mangaluru: The Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences celebrated ‘Doctor’s Day’ on June 30 at the Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre premises to mark the importance of physicians and how invaluable their treatments are to all humans.

July 1 is celebrated as Doctors Day in India, to mark the birth anniversary physician, freedom fighter and Bharat Ratna recipient, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

Haji U.K. Monu – Chiarman, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences; Abdul Rahiman – Director, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. H.S.Virupaksha – Dean, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. Sreesha Khandige – Associate Dean, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Deviprasad Shetty – Medical Superintendent, Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, were on the dais.

The event started with a prayer rendered by Yasser a 2nd MBBS student, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Rohan Monis, Chief Administrative Medical Officer, Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, welcomed the dignitaries on the dais, the guest speakers and the gathering of principals of constituent colleges, HOD’s, Doctors and the members of the Kanachur Health Sciences unit. He thanked all the doctors for their outstanding contribution into healthcare and education and said, “Let’s be and create twice the doctor, using heart and head!”

The event had 3 eminent speakers who are verticals in their field of healthcare practice. Dr. Uday Shanker – HOD, Physiology, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, stressed on the fact that doctors need to be empathetic and should always heed to the needy. He re-created the doc-patient relationship using the famous song by Mukesh ‘Kisihi muskurahaton pe ho nisar’.

Dr. Col K.G. Kiran – HOD, Community Medicine, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, mentioned the importance of Hi-Touch Medicine in the times of Hi-Tech Medicine. He impressed on the fact that the noble professionals need to gather the all-round communication expertise too.

Dr. Ashok Nayak – HOD, General Medicine, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, in his message mentioned the fairplay of evidence based medicine and stressed in the fact that the younger healthcare professionals should adapt value based medicine concepts too.

Dr. H.S. Virupaksha – Dean, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, briefed on the essence of the day, in commemoration of Dr. B.C. Roy and his distinguished achievements. He stressed that their observance days make a sea change in the perception and understanding of the students and the community at large.

Haji U.K.Monu – Chairman, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, in his presidential address expressed gratitude to all doctors for their contribution. Haji U.K. Monu emotionally expressed the essence of a doctor sighting Late Anatomy Professor – Dr. Arunachalam Kumar and invoked a minute’s silence in his memory.

Dr. Roy Frank – Senior Resident, Surgery, rendered the vote of thanks. Dr. Rohan Monis compered the programme.

The function concluded with the National Anthem.
