International conference on E-commerce kick-started

Bengaluru: E-commerce and Tourism are growing phenomenally in the world today, possessing a worthwhile potential for the economic development of any country. Globalization, development of information and communications technology (ICT) and adherence to international quality standards potentially result in paving the gaps in geographical and cultural communication barriers. The international marketing practices are transforming rapidly through the globalization of organization and digital technologies.

E-commerce has revolutionized business and changed the shape of global competition with the internet. However, with this international expansion, there are a few concerns viz., technical infrastructure, regulatory issues, logistics and reverse logistics, payment methods and payment processing, CRM, in-market customer support, cultural difference, cultivating trust and building brand as a key differentiator.

Similarly, the demand for medical tourism in India is experiencing a tremendous growth. However, the Indian medical tourism sector faces various challenges. Since India attempts to position itself as one of the preferred global medical tourism hub, a thorough understanding of means to attract, satisfy and retain medical tourists is extremely important.

Hence, to address these concerns, AIMS Institute of Higher Education organised a one day seminar on Role of E-commerce & Tourism in Creating Global Brands. Experts from various fields brainstormed on the developments, the opportunities, and the future research possibilities. The experts felt that an aggressive research agenda included an (re)examination of existing and new concepts and theories to validate them within e-commerce and tourism contexts.

The conference in particular, focused on developments and conditions which have a significant influence on global market opportunities for e-commerce and tourism. The experts also examined the influence of the Internet and electronic commerce (e-commerce) in building global brands, the emergence of multinational companies (MNCs), the development of International brands, the importance of relationships and networks, and the greater international integration.

Dr. Sam Guédouard (Business Trainer & Senior Adviser from Australia) spoke on the emergence of e-commerce in creating global brand and how to position India as a global tourist destination.
