Mangaluru: Mangalore University Intercollegiate Handball Tournament was inaugurated at St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Centenary Ground on Monday, February 10.
Inaugurating the event, St Aloysius (Autonomous) College Finance Officer Rev. Fr. Vincent Pinto SJ said, “Jesuits who are in the nook and corner of the world, educating scores of students have one unique feature; every institution run by them are attached to a playground. Jesuits believe that learning and playing should go hand-in-hand to keep one fit and healthy. Those who do not play are like those who do not care about their health.”
He called upon the participants not to be deterred by defeat but aim for a comeback and work hard for victory.
The principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Rev. Fr. Praveen Martis, in his presidential address said that many national and international level sports personalities have practiced in this same ground and have become role models for the younger generation. The best of the best sports facilities are available at the St Aloysius College (Autonomous) campus, he said, calling on the participants to make good use of these. He also inspired the students not to lose hope but to try and try till they succeed and reach greater heights.
St Aloysius College (Autonomous) HOD of Physical Education Donnet D’Souza, Convener Arun D’Souza, and others were present. The two-day event will have teams from various colleges under Mangalore University playing against each other for the coveted trophy.
