Mangaluru: Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, St Aloysius PU College organised a solemn flag hoisting ceremony to commemorate the 74th Independence Day of India. Keeping in mind the COVID 19 guidelines, only the staff members, the students’ council office bearers and the NCC cadets participated in the programme.
The air was filled with a sense of national pride and deep emotion when the flag was hoisted by the Principal, Rev.Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ. The joint secretary of the students’ council, Ms. Sasha Lobo delivered the Independence Day message. Ms. Blanche Rodrigues, the secretary of the students’ council, proposed the vote of thanks, while the President of the students’ council, Ms Vandana compered the programme. The Campus Minister, Rev. Fr Sujay Daniel SJ, and the Vice-Principal, Mr Muralikrishna GM were also present on stage.
The college also hosted an online celebration for all the students of the college. The guest speaker Col.Prashanth Petker, Administrative Commandant, Wellington, Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu delivered the Independence Day message to the students. The Principal, Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira, in his address spoke on the unity amongst people of different religions, class, caste, and gender. The celebration included pre-recorded patriotic songs by the students.
Although the current situation has forced the students to stay indoors, it did not stop the college from celebrating Independence Day in a unique way.
