Mangaluru: Hospital Infection Control Department (HICD) of Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) observed ‘World Hand Hygiene Day’ on May 5. As part of the event it organised a hand hygiene awareness campaign from May 3 to May 5.
The hand hygiene awareness campaign was inaugurated on May 3 at the Asha Kiran Grounds, FMMCH. Rev. Fr. Rudolf Ravi D’sa, Administrator, FMMCH was the President of the function, Dr. Prathvi Shetty, Associate Professor, Dept of General Surgery was the Chief Guest, Sr. Janet D’Souza, Chief Nursing Officer FMMCH, Dr Rekha B HICC Convenor were the other dignitaries.
The dignitaries released the balloons and unveiled the theme of the campaign i.e. “It’s in your hands: to prevent sepsis in health care”.
Dr Thomas SK, HICD, recited the oath to the health care providers for following the hand hygiene. Dr Prathvi Shetty briefed about the importance of hand hygiene in the daily routine.
Rev. Fr. Rudolf Ravi D’sa, in his presidential address, stressed on the hand hygiene compliance and motivated the staffs to set the hand hygiene bench mark of 100 per cent. The HICD team recognised the best High risk area (Neonatal Intensive care unit) and ward (Gynaecology G) for having the good hand hygiene compliance.
Reema Dsouza, HICN proposed the vote of thanks. The formal programme ended with the institutional anthem.
The hand hygiene campaign began by initiating the hand hygiene drill by the Hospital Infection Control Nurses to the dignitaries on and Off the Dias, ANS and Nursing fraternity and the drill will be continued for three days by demonstrating and distributing the badges.
