Commemorating the Eighteenth Anniversary of laying the foundation stone of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), the Eighth Annual Foundation Day Lecture was held on 19th March 2019 at 10:30 AM in Prerana Auditorium of the college. Mr G Raj Narayan, Managing Director, Radel Advanced Technology Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru, delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “Foundation for Innovation”.
In his lecture, Mr Raj Narayan, drew upon his vast experience of over 45 years in various responsibilities he was handling. He spoke about the need of innovation and mentioned about the value pyramid which consists of manufacturing, design, concept and on top of all of it, innovation. To facilitate innovation, he emphasized on building an ecosystem; a system which facilitates activity. He went on to say that for innovation to grow, the ecosystem must comprise of knowledge at the core of innovation which is followed by skills, experience, resource persons, thought process and the facilities. He remarked that when all the above are put together, there is innovation.
In view of knowledge, learning and skills, he asked the individuals to think differently. He portrayed knowledge as root of a tree. In a way similar to how a tree grows with experience and bears fruit, he urged that our knowledge should grow with experience.
Mr Raj Narayan stressed on the learning process which must happen from within when one masters the art of learning. If one develops the art of learning, the end result is a strong self-belief, is what he mentioned. Focusing on the role of teachers, he called upon the teachers to inspire, facilitate, encourage and counsel the students in addition to finding alternate methods to suit the students. Addressing the institution, he asked the management to create and enlarge the learning ecosystem.
Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director, Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Chief of R & D, were present during the occasion. Dr Usha Divakarla, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering moderated the lecture. Dr Anjali Ganesh, Professor in the Department of MBA, was the Convener of the event.
The day also witnessed SJEC celebrating the Feast of St Joseph, the Patron Saint of St Joseph Engineering College, which made the occasion even more special.
