Mangaluru: In a heartwarming gesture the the alumni doctors of Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore (batch of 1987) sponsored the expenses of corrective cardiac procedures for two economically backward children in A J Hospital & Research Centre, Mangalore.
Earlier this year, the alumni association had a Reunion Celebration in Bangalore to commemorate their 30th anniversary. Dr. Purushotham, an alumni and an interventional Cardiologist in A J Hospital said, “It was an unanimous decision by our batch mates to use the collective funds for a charitable cause as a part of the celebrations to make it more meaningful and memorable. ”
The funds were used towards procedures to correct congenital heart defects in two children. A 16-year-old teenager underwent a successful surgical closure of Ventricular Septal Defect and Infundibular Resection to relieve the Pulmonary Stenosis. The other patient is a two-year-old girl who had a non surgical closure of a patent ductus arteriosus with a device. These procedures were performed by a team of doctors comprising Dr. Gaurav Shetty, Dr. Gururaj Tantri, Dr. R Purushotham and Dr. Prem Alva.
Dr. Purushotham also thanked Dr. Prashanth Marla, Medical Director, A J Hospital & Research Centre, Mangalore who agreed to conduct these treatment procedures at concessional prices.
