Mangaluru: International Women’s Day was observed on March 7th by the Department of MSW at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital auditorium. The program was presided over by Dr.Padmanabha Sampathila, Medical Superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital. Dr. Irene Veigas, Assistant Professor and coordinator of International Women’s Day program, Department of MSW, spoke on the significance of the day and the theme of the year “ Each for equal; I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights” and welcomed. Dignitaries and women representatives inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.
Dr. Prabha Adhikari, Senior Professor of Department of Geriatric Medicine of Yenepoya Medical College was the chief guest. In her speech, she urged not to discriminate against the children based on gender. Women should use all the opportunities for their empowerment. She called for women to improve their self-confidence and physical health which will promote their development.
Dr. Padmanabha Sampathila, Medical Superintendent distributed the prizes for the women who won prizes in various competitions held during the event. Dr. Mohammed Guthigar HOD of MSW was present on the dais. Students of MSW and staff performed mime show and sung songs highlighting the problems of women and the need for empowerment. As many as 125 women caretakers, women staff and students were present during the program. Ms. Soumya, Medical Social Worker proposed a vote of thanks. Mrs. Mainaz, Junior Research Fellow compeered the program.
