Mangaluru: A national symposium on “Current trends in ornithology and conservation of birds in India”, will be organized by the Department of Zoology, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) on September 4.
A senior scientist from Nature Conservation Foundation named Dr. Suhel Quader is invited as the chief guest and Dr. Asad R Rahmani former Director of BNHS will be the guest of honor for the inauguration. Rector Rev Fr. Dionysius Vas SJ and Principal Rev Fr. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ will preside over the function.
Book titled “Butterflies and Birds of the campus”, will be released by Dr. Suhel Quader. Shivashankar Director of Coastal Karnataka Bird Watchers Network will speak on “Techniques in bird photography”. Shashank Dalvi Director of Eco Connect ventures will speak on “Evolution of birding in India”. Dr. Asad R Rahmani will deliver a lecture on “Threatened birds of India and their conservation requirements”. He will also be the chief guest for the valedictory ceremony.
The highlights of the exhibition are photography, students bird photography and prominent birds and wildlife photographers and enthusiast. A student will be awarded for best photography.
The main motto of the symposium is to create an awareness among staff, students, and commoners about the Indian birdlife and conservation efforts.
The convener of the symposium is Prof. Priscilla D’Silva Dean of biological sciences and the organizing secretary is Dr Hemachandra of the department of Zoology.
