Mangaluru: The Graduation Ceremony and Annual Day Celebrations of A.J Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AJIMS) was held at the A.J Auditorium on March 16.
Sasikanth Senthil S, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Dakshina Kannada district was the chief guest and Dr. Thimappa Hedge, Director of Narayana Institute Of Neurosciences, Bengaluru was the guest of honour.
They awarded certificates to 143 graduates and 30 postgraduates.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the graduating students and urged them to serve the society with their medical expertise. He also motivated the doctors to work to reduce morbidity and mortality in India and to uphold the principles of medical profession.
Speaking to the graduating students, Dr. Thimmappa Hegde explained the true virtues of medical profession. He urged the new entrants to the healthcare sector to practice service over money. He enthralled the audience with his philosophical perspective of life and humanity.
In his presidential address, Founder of A J Group of Institutions Dr. A J Shetty elaborated on the services and facilities provided by the medical college and hospitals. He commended the efforts of the teachers for their contribution to academic excellence.
Dean of AJIMS Dr. Ashok Hegde presented the Annual Report for the year 2017-18 and recounted the achievements of the institution. In his speech, he lauded the management for their support for the success of AJIMS staff and students.
Dr. Vijayashree K. M, Dr. Akarshitha B and Dr. Pooja Uppoor received President’s Gold Medal from Dr. A. J. Shetty. University rank holders were also felicitated.
Prashanth Shetty, Vice President, LMET distributed awards to the subject-wise toppers.
K Amarnath Shetty, former cabinet minister for tourism & religious endowment, Prashanth Shetty, Vice President of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, Ashritha P Shetty, Director of LMET and Dr. M. Ramesh Pai, former dean, AJIMS attended the event.
