Mangaluru: It was indeed a great 67th Republic Day celebration for The Yenepoya School and Yenepoya PU College, Mangalore, with a young, charming, dynamic and a wonderful orator as the chief guest for the day, Dr. Edmond Fernandes, Public Health Professional and Author.
Dr Edmond was welcomed to the gathering by the School Pupil Leader Zaid Latheef with a Guard of Honour. Kaif Yenepoya of Grade X welcomed the gathering on this august occasion. The unfurling of the Tricolour by the chief guest was followed by the proud rendition of Jhanda Ooncha Rahe Hamara and the National Anthem.
Dr Edmond expressed his love for India, with his own experiences of growing up and learning in a Christian Missionary School, pursuing college in Hindu Education Society andmoving to shape his professional career in an Islamic University. His words were engraved in the minds and hearts of our students when he related to them as the future of Mangaluru, Karnataka and India.
The students had a listening ear as his words touched the core of their hearts and ignited a spark of thought- ‘let’s do what we can for India’.
Dr. Edmond was overwhelmed when the young students spoke about the importance of Republic Day and National Integration. He ushered the students to use the social media positively and it was well accepted by our young listeners.
The programme concluded with a special ‘groupfie’ of the guest with all the students and staff.
Zareen Rehman of Grade VIII was the MC for the event.
