Mumbai: Noted businessman Rajiv Bajaj and Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, recently announced that his company will not be advertising with three channels henceforth. During an interview with CNBC TV18, Bajaj stated that his company does not endorse toxicity and hate-mongering in society.
It can be recalled that on Thursday, the Mumbai Police busted a major fraud of manipulating TRP (Television Ratings Points) data by three TV channels – Republic TV, Fakt Marathi, and Box Cinema. While the owners of the two Marathi channels have been arrested, Republic TV’s CFO Shiva Sundaram has moved the Supreme Court against the summons issued by Mumbai Police to the news channel in connection with the alleged Television Rating Point (TRP) scam. Republic TV’s founder and Chief Editor Arnab Goswami challenged the Mumbai Police Commissioner to arrest him.
Speaking further, Bajaj said that a strong brand is the “foundation” on which a strong business is built. “At the end of the day, a strong business’ purpose is to contribute to society… Our brand has never associated with anything we feel is a source of toxicity in the society,” he added, while not naming the three channels.
Bajaj said that the company’s teams “can spot channels and newspapers that are toxic and hate mongering in the society”. “We can’t continue to be supportive of such a medium no matter what repercussions it may have on the business,” he added.
