Vijayapura: With the idea of finding a solution to the water woes of the Vijayapura town, the district administration decided to rejuvenate 147 traditional wells, which were constructed at the time of Adil Shahi rulers.
Under the scheme, these wells will be rejuvenated under the funds available with the Vijayapura Urban Development Authority and minor irrigation and groundwater development department.
“These 147 wells are identified by the 7 teams of officers. Now the efforts will be done to remove all the encroachment. The rejuvenation works will be undertaken in three stages. The water available in these open wells will be used for the gardening. If the quality is good, it will be used for the drinking purposes also,” informed Vijayapura DC YS Patil.
Most of the well are unused and have been transformed into waste disposal spots in the district. They are in a dilapidated state and some of the wells have been encroached. The district administration will have a challenging task of first renovating the wells.
