Vijayapura: Fed up of the continued harassment by the Chief of the educational institution where they were studying, as many as 12 visually impaired students went missing from an aided school in the city on Wednesday.

It is said that while seven successfully reached their native places, five others kept inquiring the passersby about a well, as they had planned to end their lives.

The incident occurred at the Shivasharana Haralaiah School for the Blind at Mallikarjuna Nagar here.  It is said that torture by A?M Doddamani, president of the institution, and his wife led the students to take this step.

When the news spread, local residents gathered outside the school and took Doddamani family to task, even as the grieving students kept insisting that they wanted to end their lives.

The students spelling out their ordeal said that complaints to the officials concerned had proved futile. However, the students stay put on the decision that they would now enter the school premises only with the President and his family moved out.

V?M Gulaganji, an official with the department of welfare of the disabled and senior citizens, is quoted in Deccan Herald stating that the institution had not replied to the notices served on it, following complaints and that recommendation would be made to the higher officials to shut down the school.
Soon, Doddamani admitted to his mistake and has promised to leave the place after handing over all responsibilities to the school staff.
