Vijayapura: Taking a jibe at former chief minister Siddaramaiah for his statement against freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, disqualified MLA H Vishwanath said that it is a disheartening development that there is opposition to the proposal to confer Bharat Ratna on Veer Savarkar.
“Neither I nor my family, neither Siddaramaiah nor his family fought for independence. We have lost nothing for the sake of this country. It is due to the blood and sweat of people like Savarkar that we are enjoying independence today,” said Vishwanath adding that he would answer Siddaramaiah in Mysuru, which is their home turf.
Further talking about the disqualification move of former Speaker and the judgment, which is still awaited, Vishwanath, who was in Tikota taluk of Vijayapura on Monday said that he has a firm belief that the Apex Court will uphold their rights.
It may be recalled that as many as 17 MLAs of Karnataka were disqualified by the then Speaker Ramesh Kumar for shifting loyalties from coalition parties-Congress and JDS. These MLAs ultimate became the reason for the collapse of the coalition government at the state.
