Vijayapura: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Bagalkot District In-charge Minister Umesh Katti has made it clear that since twin districts; Vijayapura and Bagalkot have received good rains, therefore, as of now, there is no proposal before the government to release water from Almatti dam to canals.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the storage of water level in Almatti dam and holding a meeting with the officials, he said that the dam currently has 89 tmcft of water, and a decision to release water will be taken after holding an Irrigation Consultative Committee meeting next month.
He said that the proposal to distribute Ragi and Jawar under the Public Distribution System is before the government. But to distribute Jawar to people of North Karnataka, the government needs at least 6.54 lakh tonnes of Jawar and equal quantum of Ragi for South Karnataka region.
“ Since the government is not getting adequate quantities of both commodities, thus the government is unable to bring them under PDS”, he said.
On increasing MSP for Jawar, he said that he has written several letters to the Central Government in this regard.
On the political front, Katti made it clear that the post of CM is not vacant and B. S. Yediyurappa will continue as CM of the State.
Stating that he will raise voice every time if he feels that there is discrimination in development issue with North Karnataka region.
He said that the Congress will not come to power even for the next ten years.
“ Yet the Congress leaders are dreaming of becoming CM. Nothing is right in the Congress”, he claimed.
