Vijayapura: Disciplinary action was initiated against three police personnel, including a woman from Jalnagar police station in Vijayapura district after photographs of them consuming alcohol within the police station premises emerged on television channels on Wednesday.
The cops in question – assistant sub-inspector SS Malegaon, constable IY Soddi and woman constable Padma Rathod were suspended from duty on Wednesday. In the photographs that were flashed on a news channel, Malegaon and Soddi were seen drinking alcohol while Padma was seen serving the two.
Meanwhile, the suspended cops have denied that they were drinking alcohol and said that the bottles containing sambhar and rasam were mistaken for alcohol.
Speaking to a news agency SP Kuldeep Kumar mentioned that preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occured on May 14 and the cops claimed that they were having food bought from the wedding venue of an ASI’s son nearby at the police premises. He said that it was to be verified if the police personnel were consuming alcohol. The SP, however pointed out that partying in the police premises amounted to indiscipline and the cops had not even adhered to the dress code as one was seen without a shirt and the other is in mufti- on duty.
