Vijayapura: Expressing concern over the health of the students, veteran Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Council, S. R. Patil has demanded the government to cancel the SSLC examinations.
Addressing a press conference at the party office on Saturday, he took exception to the decision of Education Minister Suresh Kumar to hold the SSLC exam during the pandemic.
“ I am wondering why the Minister is so eager to hold the SSLC exam when many States in the country have already canceled it in the interest of the students’ health”, he said.
Giving an example of the Andhra Pradesh government where the SSLC exams were canceled after the intervention of the Supreme Court, Patil said that the order of the SC applies to all States in general and not only to AP.
Stating that the government should reopen the colleges only after vaccinating all the students, he said that without vaccination, the government should not think of reopening the colleges.
Taking on the Modi government, Patil alleged that the Modi government has decided to sell off India to two corporate giants; Ambani and Adani.
“ Don’t be surprised if someday these two people become the owner of India because Modi is selling all profit-making government-owned companies to these two of his close friends”, he said.
Alleging the Modi government of completely failing to control the Covid pandemic, Patil said that while counties like the US were fast administering the Covid vaccine to save their citizens from Covid, Modi was busy building his image by exporting vaccines.
“ While other countries are prioritizing saving the lives of their citizens first, Modi was showing care for the citizens of other countries, not the citizens of India”, he said.
Patil said that Modi exported over 6.6 crore doses of vaccines to other countries when the people of India were in dire need of it.
He said that while countries like China and the US have already administered vaccines to nearly half of their population, the Modi government has vaccinated merely less than 5% population of the country.
“ The Modi government has still not learned any lesson from the first and second wave of the pandemic as it has not made any preparations to deal with the third wave”, he said.
Stating that according to the experts, third wave could prove fatal to children, Patil said that the Modi government has still not made any concrete plans to deal with the possible third wave.
