Vijayapura: BJP district president, R. S. Patil Kochabal said that the Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the airport on February 15.
Addressing presspersons, he said that it has been a long-standing demand of the people of the district to have an airport, which finally got the green signal.
Stating that the airport will bring many benefits to the local residents, he said that besides traveling to other districts and states in limited time, the airport will help the farmers to transport their commodities in cargo.
“ Our district is known for growing horticulture crops such as grape, lemon, and pomegranate which has a great demand in the State. The farmers can use the air cargo to transport their commodities quicker to other districts, mainly State Capital”, Kochabal said.
He informed that on February 15, CM will launch the work virtually from Shivamogga while DCM, Govind Karjol will be present.
Kochabal said that the dream is coming true because of the efforts of MP, Ramesh Jigajinagi, and DCM, Karjol.
He informed that the airport is coming up on 227-acre land at Burananpur village which is around 10 kilometers away from the city.
“ The government has granted Rs. 220 crore for the project. In the first phase, Rs. 95 crore would be spent on the construction of an airstrip. Remaining for the other works”, he said.
He claimed that already Rs. 95 crore has been granted and tender has been allotted with the condition that the works should be completed within 11 months.
Vijugouda Patil, Umesh Karjol, Vivekanand Dabbi, Shivarudra Bagalkot, Vijay Joshi, Basavaraj Baichabal, and others were present.
