Vijayapura: Agriculture Minister, B. C. Patil has assured to get the Food Park project at Ittangihal in Babaleshwar constituency included in the coming State budget.

Addressing media persons during the visit to the proposed land at Ittangihal village on Monday, he said that he has come to visit the land after Former Minister and MLA, M. B. Patil submitted a memorandum and requested him to inspect the land for giving approval to Food Park.

Claiming that he liked the land which he found suitable for the project, he said that after going back to Bengaluru, he would try to get the project included in the budget.

“A Food Park is necessary in Vijayapura in order to promote horticulture crops as the district cultivates Lime, Pomegranate and Grape in ample quantity. The Food Park will surely help in promoting these commodities, and provide employment to several local youths in the field”, the Minister said.

He said that using the funds allocated by the Union Government for such schemes, the units can be set up in Ittangihal.

Thanking the Minister for arriving to inspect the land, MLA, M. B. Patil said that the park will help the local small entrepreneurs and small farmers to get their commodities stored and processed.

He said that over 200-acre of land can be used for setting up integrated units such as Food Park and the wine industry using the locally cultivated grapes.

“I had proposed to the minister that instead of setting up separate units, the government could set up an integrated unit where the Food Park and wine industry can be set up in the same area. This will prevent duplication of units and save money as well”, Patil said.

He said that not only the Minister but the experts too have accepted the proposal and got convinced with the idea.

He too hoped that the project would find a place in the coming State budget.

Meanwhile, on the allegations that the government is planning to shift the Agriculture Research Centre from Bijapur to Muddebihal, the Minister refuted the allegations stating that there is no such proposal before the government.

He however said that he could think of getting a new centre set up at Muddebihal by retaining Bijapur’s centre.

With regards to the reports that the government is proposing to set up Organic Agriculture University in Shivamogga, the home district of CM, B. S. Yediyurappa, the Minister asserted that a proposal has been mooted to set up the university but no place has been decided so far.

“ Since no place is decided, so the question of establishing it in Shivamogga does not arise at all so far”, he said.

ZP President, Sujata Kallimani, Chairman of Karnataka Seeds and Certification Agency, Vijugouda Patil and several other leaders were present.
