mb patilVijayapura: Former major irrigation minister and Lingayat strongman of the Congress, M B Patil has informed that the agitation for minority status for the Lingayat community will be relaunched after the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at a meeting of Lingayat leaders in Vijayapura, his home district, Patil informed that as the movement is non-political, it has been decided to relaunch the agitation after the Lok Sabha polls.

“It is sad that the Central government has decided against giving a minority status to the Lingayats. But, after the Lok Sabha elections, we will start an agitation to pressurise them,” he said.

According to Congress sources, AICC president Rahul Gandhi directed the state leaders not to rack up the issue as it hurt the party in the 2018 state Assembly election.
