Bidar: The Jharani Narasimhaswamy Temple was closed due to water shortage and devotees were stopped from entering the temple premises for the first time after 400 years.

There is an acute water shortage in the border areas of Bidar. Even drinking water is scarce in some places.

Jharani Narasimhaswamy cave temple is situated in a 300-metre tunnel. The devotees had to cover the entire distance of the tunnel through 4 to 5 feet of water to reach the deity at the end of the tunnel.

The sanctum sanctorum houses two deities–Lord Narasimha and Shiva Linga which were said to be worshipped by demon Jharasura.

The temple has been closed for devotees after 400 years as the water level in the cave has gone below one foot.
