Bhatkal: Recent provocative statements against Muslims from BJP’s MP Anant Kumar Hegde have led to a tense situation in Bhatkal town. Over 400 police personnel have been deployed in the region as a precautionary measure.
Miscreants from Sangh Parivar tried to disrupt peace when many of the Muslim organisations condemned the MP’s statements and demanded action against him.
On Sunday, Hegde had called for press meet to speak about the Hubbali-Ankola railway track project. While responding to a query on terrorism, he called Bhatkal a terrorism hub and also called to eliminate Islam from the world for global peace.
Majlise-Islah-Wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal, General Secretary, Altaf Kharuri has submitted a memorandum to SP C Vamsi Krishna requesting detailed investigation into the matter.
Addressing the media, Kharuri said that Hegde’s dream of eliminating Islam form the world can never be realised. He also requested Muslims not to heed to such statements as he would try all possible action against Hegde within the law.
