Bellari: Two young girls, who fell in love with youth from different communities got killed at the hands of their own parents in two separate incidents in Bellari.
In one incident, Maneesha from Nimkheda village here was killed by her father Babu Sivare on Wednesday for marrying Ganesh, a youth from different community.
It is said that Babu had fixed Maneesha’s engagement with a boy from their own community on April 20. But, on learning that Maneesha had married a medical rep Ganesh and has shifted to his house, on Wednesday Babu barged into Ganesh’s house in his Ganesh’s absence and attacked Maneesha with a sickle killing her.
After killing his daughter, he surrendered before the police. It is said that Maneesha who was battling for life, before dying had revealed that her father attacked her.
Double murder turns honour killing
Meanwhile, in yet another case reported from Bellari, a man strangulated his daughter to death after beating her mercilessly along with his sons, for the simple reason that she had married a boy from a different religion.
The incident that took place in Hampasagara village here was first assumed to be a double murder case. But in turn of event, it was learnt that Reshma Banu (22) and K Nagaraj (22) from Chithradurga were killed by Reshma’s father Babu Saheb and brothers in fit of rage as the girl had married Nagaraj.
It is said that on March 24, Reshma’s family members barged into Reshma and Nagaraj’s house and assaulted Nagaraj. When Reshma came to his rescue, they had pushed her away. Thinking that Nagaraj was dead, they disposed his body on outskirts of the village and returned to Reshma’s house where she was lying in pool of blood. Here her father and brothers strangulated her and fled the spot.
Later, the family performed last rites of Reshma in a hurry stating that the girl had suffered a heart attack. Meanwhile, Nagaraj, who was in pathetic state was rushed to Davangere hospital on March 25, however, he died due to injuries on March 31.
But, the investigating officer found that it was a case of honour killing. Five persons have been send to judicial custody.
